April 8, 2024 - Solar Eclipse

Rain or shine, this crew is hard at work! However, even diligent workers need to take a break sometimes, and with the Solar Eclipse glasses they got from the library, an Eclipse break it was!!

Work Has Begun!!

Trimmer's Landscaping, Inc. was chosen by the MEB Board of Trustees as the contractor for this project and we are happy to announce demolition began on December 20th, 2023!  We are so grateful for all the donors that made this project possible! Our new amphitheater will be named in honor and memory of Linda Johnston, an avid library supporter.  Linda's husband, Kevin Johnston, and their family made a donation of $100,000 to move this project forward and we are so incredibly thankful.  Photos below show Mr. Johnston and his family after presenting the check to the library at a recent Selectboard meeting.  The photos that follow show snapshots of the first two days of demolition.  We look forward to sharing photos of the rebuilding soon! Contact Janice Wiers, Library Director with any questions by stopping into the library, emailing at [email protected], or calling 603-642-3355.

The library amphitheater has been an integral part of our community, serving as a space to enhance the library's mission. However, the current state of the amphitheater has become a safety concern for the community. For over five years, the amphitheater has been deemed unsafe due to structural damage caused by natural wear and tear. It is crucial to have a safe space that can accommodate the community's needs while also providing a comfortable and secure environment for everyone to enjoy.

Investing in a new and safe library amphitheater with accessible parking and pedestrian infrastructure is crucial for our community. A well-designed and structurally sound amphitheater can serve as a hub for various free events, such as library programs, concerts, plays, and social and professional gatherings, which will draw people from all over town. Having a safe and accessible amphitheater will promote a sense of multigenerational community spirit and belonging. Your contribution and support are critical to the success of this much-needed project.

Sincerely,
Mary E. Bartlett Memorial Library Trustees and Staff
