Literacy Tip:

​Picture books have so much to offer!  On the first reading, the basic story is revealed.  On subsequent readings, other layers can be discovered.  In the book, On the Beach, the words tell a story, but the pictures tell an underlying story, helping children to see that careful observation can lead to predictions for the next page.  They race to see if they can find the clue before it is revealed.  This engagement is exactly what many picture books offer. Funny picture books often contain humor that is meant to entertain the adult while reading. Try paying attention to the extra layers contained in picture books – you just might find yourself hooked on picture books!!

Starfish

The children were given a cutout shape of a starfish with spaces to glue Cheerios. We finished the project with some Cheerios to eat, along with Goldfish crackers.
